People from across Wales are taking part in an online meeting tomorrow evening (Tuesday, 16th June) to discuss the scrapping of Local Development Plans (LDPs) across the country.Â
The event, hosted by Welsh National Party leader, Neil McEvoy MS, will take place on Zoom and will be live-streamed to his Facebook page at 7 pm.Â
LDPs have become an increasingly controversial topic as decisions to build on green spaces with little to no consultation with the public are given the green light.
Local people being priced out of their communities, pressure on existing local infrastructure, increased traffic and air pollution are said to be growing concerns.
Speaking before the meeting, McEvoy encouraged the public to take part:Â
âI am wanting as many people to join in the meeting. We need to open up the discussion about planning policy in Wales. Weâre about to face the worst recession in living memory and itâs high time we put the needs of the people first.Â
âThere are ways we can stop these projects taking place, however, we must move towards a radical change in how we approach democracy in Wales. Â
âThe Welsh National Party will always put communities first. Decentralisation of decision making to community level must be a principle of government and the rights of communities to influence decisions must be respected. The WNP favours local referenda on matters of local importance. It’s time to place power back in the hands of the people.Â
âUnpopular Local Development Plans, wreaking havoc on local communities must be scrapped and emergency planning legislation passed to protect green field sites and community assets. â
