A message from CEO McDonald’s UK and Ireland

A month ago, we reopened 15 restaurants for McDelivery® only as we began our return to business. I am so grateful to our employees, franchisees and partners for working together as we’ve carefully scaled up our operations and returned to communities across the UK and Ireland. Today we have over 1,000 restaurants open for Drive-thru or McDelivery®, and next Wednesday we will open the front doors in more than 200 additional restaurants for the first time, for takeaway.

We are putting the safety and wellbeing of our teams, customers and delivery partner couriers first in all our restaurants. In our takeaway restaurants, that includes introducing floor markings, additional Perspex screens and hand sanitising stations for customers. We will restrict numbers inside our restaurants, and additional staff will control the flow of people in and out of the restaurant as we do our best to keep you safe. But we need your help too. It is important that we all continue to adhere to the guidance from the government and health authorities, especially if you need to queue outside our restaurants before there is space for you to enter – and please be sure to follow the social distancing and safety measures we’ve introduced once you’re inside.

I know the changes are taking some getting used to. Before you visit, this video will show you some of the measures we’ve introduced to help keep you and our people safe, and we thank you for continuing to follow this guidance as you step inside our restaurants again.

In my last email, I promised an update on our breakfast menu, and I am delighted to confirm we will pilot the return of the McMuffin® from next Wednesday in 42 restaurants in the UK and Ireland. As with our main menu, we will have a limited menu at breakfast but we’ve kept the classics – Hash Browns, McMuffins® and Pancakes all return – but unfortunately, whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, we are unable to serve porridge, bagels and our Breakfast Wrap. This is because we have fewer people in the kitchen. Our opening hours will vary from restaurant to restaurant, so download the My McDonald’s app or check our website for details.

We will share more information about the breakfast pilot and takeaway restaurants on Wednesday morning via our website, app and social media.

Thank you again for the warm welcome you have shown us across the UK and Ireland, it really is great to be back. Our restaurant teams are working incredibly hard to serve you in the ‘new normal’ and I know the support, patience and excitement they have seen from you has been a great help.

Take care and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Regards,
Paul Pomroy
Chief Executive Officer, McDonald’s UK and Ireland
