Neil McEvoy MS has today (Wed 24 June) gone to work in the Senedd despite no certainty when Parliament will officially re-open. This is in response to the “hypocrisy” and “a lack of leadership” and “contempt for the Welsh people” displayed by the Labour led Welsh Government over recent months.
Speaking before setting off to work, McEvoy said:
“I am returning to work today in the Senedd.
“As people all over Wales are going back to work in their thousands, the Welsh Government still has the Senedd on lockdown.
“Holyrood, Stormont and Westminster are all open, but the Senedd isn’t. This sends out a bad message to the people of Wales. It’s saying that you must go back to your workplace but us politicians who make these rules aren’t quite ready yet. Do as we say, not as we do.
“It smacks of hypocrisy and shows contempt for the Welsh people.
“Our parliament cannot be shut down when we are expecting non-essential retail and schools to return shortly. How can politicians send children back to the front line, but leave politicians safely locked away at home? This shows a lack of leadership. Politicians should be leading by example. The kids are back in school next week, so I am going back to work a week before them.
“Of course physical distancing measures must be observed and politicians may have to work remotely more often but we need to re-open our democracy and scrutinise the FM over his handling of the crisis.
“The Labour-led government might be trying to avoid the inevitable reckoning that will take place when we assess the damage of Coronavirus and poor decisions they have made.
“I know Mark Drakeford is famous for his dithering but I’d encourage him in this important time to show some leadership and lead by example on this one.
“The economy is in free-fall and the parliamentarians deserve to be there to hold the government to account. During lockdown, I have been prevented from even asking questions of the First Minister by Plaid Cymru’s Presiding Officer. There seems to be an informal agreement to prevent scrutiny. This has to change.”

Heddiw mae Neil McEvoy AS wedi mynd i weithio yn y Senedd er nad oes unrhyw sicrwydd pryd y bydd yn ailagor yn swyddogol. Mae hyn mewn ymateb i’r “rhagrith”, y “diffyg arweinyddiaeth” a’r “dirmyg tuag at bobl Gymru” a ddangoswyd gan Lywodraeth Cymru dan arweiniad Llafur dros y misoedd diwethaf.
Wrth siarad cyn cychwyn i’w waith, dywedodd McEvoy:
“Rwy’n dychwelyd i’r gwaith heddiw yn y Senedd.
“Wrth i bobl ledled Cymru fynd yn ôl i weithio yn eu miloedd, mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn parhau i gadw Senedd Cymru ar gau.
“Mae Holyrood, Stormont a San Steffan i gyd ar agor, ond nid felly Senedd Cymru. Mae hyn yn anfon neges wael i bobl Cymru. Mae’n datgan bod yn rhaid i chi fynd yn ôl i’ch gweithle ond nid ydym ni wleidyddion sy’n gwneud y rheolau hyn yn hollol barod eto. Gwnewch fel rydyn ni’n dweud, nid fel rydyn ni’n ei wneud.
“Mae’n drewi o ragrith ac yn dangos dirmyg llwyr tuag at bobl Cymru.
“Ni ellir parhau i gadw ein senedd ar gau tra’n disgwyl i ysgolion a busnesau manwerthu ddychwelyd cyn hir. Sut all gwleidyddion anfon plant yn ôl i’r rheng flaen, ond aros adref yn ddiogel dan glo eu hunain? Mae hyn yn dangos diffyg arweinyddiaeth. Dylai gwleidyddion fod yn arwain trwy esiampl. Mae’r plant yn ôl yn yr ysgol yr wythnos nesaf, felly rydw innau’n dychwelyd i’r gwaith wythnos o’u blaenau.
“Wrth gwrs, rhaid dilyn mesurau pellhau corfforol ac efallai y bydd yn rhaid i wleidyddion weithio o bell yn amlach ond mae angen i ni ailagor ein democratiaeth a chraffu ar y modd yr ymdriniwyd â’r argyfwng.
“Efallai bod y llywodraeth dan arweiniad Llafur yn ceisio osgoi’r feirniadaeth lem sy’n anochel pan fyddwn yn asesu difrod Coronafirws a’r penderfyniadau gwael y maent wedi’u gwneud.
“Rwy’n gwybod bod Mark Drakeford yn enwog am din-droi ond hoffwn ei annog yn ystod yr amser pwysig hwn i ddangos rhywfaint o arweinyddiaeth ac arwain trwy esiampl.
“Mae’r economi ar drai ac mae’r seneddwyr yn haeddu bod yno i ddwyn y llywodraeth i gyfrif. Yn ystod y cyfnod clo rwyf wedi cael fy atal rhag hyd yn oed ofyn cwestiynau i’r Prif Weinidog gan Lywydd Plaid Cymru. Mae’n ymddangos bod cytundeb anffurfiol ar waith i atal unrhyw graffu ystyrlon. Rhaid i hyn newid.”
