Travellers arriving in the UK from Spain will now have to quarantine for 14 days following a spike in coronavirus cases, as the FCO advises against all non-essential travel to mainland Spain. Travel Insurance Expert at Confused.com Jac Morris says:
“This announcement has come as a shock to many people. There are thousands of Brits currently on holiday in Spain, or with plans to travel in the coming weeks, and it has created a lot of uncertainty around what is or isn’t covered on their insurance.
“According to the FCO guidance, the travel ban applies to mainland Spain only, with popular island destinations including the Canary and Balearic Islands still considered to be safe for travel, although you would still need to quarantine for 14-days when you return.
“It also doesn’t mean holidaymakers in Spain should rush to come home and should follow the local rules to stay safe. But for those with a trip to mainland Spain planned, your insurance will not cover you should you choose to travel.
“As official advice is constantly changing, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest guidance, especially if the FCO announces restrictions on other countries in the coming months. No doubt, those with travel plans will be confused about where they stand. In fact, our research found that almost a third (30%) of people are already confused about how coronavirus could impact their travel insurance. To clear things up, our expert guide outlines the latest travel advice, including the latest information from our travel insurance providers.”
