Some people have a party, some people fly off to exotic climes but Royce Warner decided to spend the night of his 80th birthday (Friday 14th August) in his bath as he boycotts his bed for Action for Children.

Boycott your Bed is Action for Children’s charity challenge that is asking people to join forces with family, friends or colleagues on Friday August 21st to raise money and spend the night in the most unusual place in your home.

Royce, a devout Methodist chaplain from Penmaenmawr, was very keen to do his bit for vulnerable children and families.  He said: ‘I am a keen supporter of Action of Children and wanted to do something unusual to support Boycott your Bed.  I thought sleeping in my bath on my 80th birthday was the perfect way to raise some money and awareness of children and families who have been particularly hard hit by Covid-19.  I hope I can help inspire a lot of people to join me in boycotting my bed and help those in our community who need it most.’

Anthea Turner is hosting the evening and will keep everyone company until people ditch their duvets. Parents will be able to tire the little ones out before bedtime by joining in our creative Scavenger Hunt, before cosying up for a very special reading of the beloved children’s book, Elmer. There’ll be lots more on the night, too with family focused activities running from 6pm until 8pm.

From 8.30pm to 11pm, the attention turns to the adults who will be able to take part in our interactive Trivia Game hosted by comedian Ed Byrne, and other virtual games as well as sitting back and tuning into an exclusive performance from renowned artist, Pixie Lott.

Nina Rice, Action for Children’s Area Fundraising Manager in Wales said: ‘What Royce has done is fantastic, a very unique and caring way to spend such a landmark birthday.  He’s also a shining example of what people can do to boycott their beds and raise money for a brilliant cause.

‘You could rough it in the garden, pitch a tent under your table, or bunk down in the bathroom like Royce. There’ll be virtual entertainment and fundraising fun on the night, too, bringing homes together across the UK.  It will be a brilliant night of entertainment and wherever you decide to sleep, you’ll help vulnerable children and families who are in desperate need.’
