This Sunday’s 20 overs Cup encounter between Ammanford CC and Swansea CC was delayed due to a wet outfield in the idyllic setting of Ammanford Park.
The Umpires held a pitch inspection at 1pm and decided on a delayed pitching of stumps. The game finally got under way at 3.15pm.

Swansea Opener Brad Wadlan hit an impressive score of 60, tonking the ball around the park for 6s and 4s. He was ably assisted by Stefan Roberts who made a brisk 31. At 87-1 with plenty of overs to go it looked as if Swansea were going to post a core in excess of 200.

However the tide turned in the second part of the Swansea innings as Ammanford managed to slow the scoring rate down. All rounder Mathew Fisher had a big hand in applying the brakes, his 4 overs produced two wickets and included a rare maiden over. Mathew also produced the goods in the outfield by taking two difficult catches , plucking the ball from the sky whilst running in from the boundary.

Ammanford’s bowlers Owen Davies with two wickets and Alun Evans with a wicket also helped slow the Swansea innings.

Swansea’s Conor Miles made a brisk 17 runs to help the visitors reach a very respectable total of 147 for 6 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

Ammanford came off the field believing that it was more than possible to chase the total set down whilst Swansea were very satisfied with their total.

Ammanford needed a total of 148 to win

However the Ammanford innings got off to the worst possible start losing their first wicket with their score being 1 for 1. In fact the Ammanford innings continued to stutter with opening batsman Mathew Fisher watching on the other end as the wickets tumbled around him. 17 for 2 became 22 for 3 and at 72 for 6 not even Mathew’s knock of 37 couldn’t prevent his side from falling behind the required run rate. However despite a credible innings of 28 not out from batsman Gareth Slade who gave some hope to his team, but in the end the home team came up short by 31 runs and ended in cup defeat.
