In response to today’s (11 Sept) announcement from Welsh Government on face coverings, Wales TUC General Secretary Shavanah Taj said:

“We welcome Welsh Government’s decision to make face coverings mandatory in shops and other indoor spaces. This decision will help keep workers safe.

“The local lockdown in Caerphilly and the sharp rise in case numbers in other local authority areas demonstrates the severity of the threat that Covid 19 continues to pose.

“The Welsh Government should now also extend the mandatory use of face masks to secondary schools – in line with practice across the rest of the UK.

“We will continue to work closely with the Welsh Government and other partners through the new National Health and Safety forum to ensure that employers are meeting their obligations to keep their workers safe.”

TUC Cymru yn croesawu cyhoeddiad Llywodraeth Cymru ar orchuddion wyneb

Mewn ymateb i gyhoeddiad heddiw (11 Medi) gan Lywodraeth Cymru ar orchuddion wyneb, dywedodd Ysgrifennydd Cyffredinol TUC Cymru Shavanah Taj:

“Rydym yn croesawu penderfyniad Llywodraeth Cymru i wneud gorchuddion wyneb yn orfodol mewn siopau a mannau eraill dan do. Bydd y penderfyniad hwn yn helpu i gadw gweithwyr yn ddiogel.

“Mae’r cloi lleol yng Nghaerffili a’r cynnydd sydyn yn nifer yr achosion mewn awdurdodau lleol eraill yn dangos difrifoldeb y bygythiad y mae Covid-19 yn parhau i’w achosi.

“Dylai Llywodraeth Cymru hefyd ymestyn y defnydd gorfodol o orchuddion wyneb i ysgolion uwchradd – yn unol â’r arfer ar draws gweddill y DU.

“Byddwn yn parhau i weithio’n agos gyda Llywodraeth Cymru a phartneriaid eraill drwy’r fforwm Iechyd a Diogelwch Cenedlaethol newydd i sicrhau bod cyflogwyr yn cyflawni eu rhwymedigaethau i gadw eu gweithwyr yn ddiogel.”
