Digital Youth Project Receives Excellence Award

A youth project in Pembrokeshire has won a national award for its innovative approach to engaging young people in housing issues.

The QR Code project developed by Pembrokeshire County Council’s youth support team aims to provide information in a format which young people find easy to access and understand.

The scheme won the Digital Innovation Award category in the Welsh Government’s Youth Excellence Awards, held virtually on Friday (9^th October).

Working with young people and partners, the project members created a range of videos and other materials easily accessed via the QR code on smart devices.

The videos and other materials aim to give clear information and guidance in a straightforward way, avoiding jargon.

Cllr Guy Woodham, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, congratulated all those involved.

“By providing information in an accessible way for young people, the project has succeeded in improving their understanding and engagement,” he said.

“In turn, this contributes towards the prevention of various housing issues which can affect young people, including homelessness and the breakdown of youth tenancies.”

Nick Hudd, Senior Youth Work Practitioner, said: “I’m so pleased that the Youth Support team have won this award. It reflects the efforts both they and the young people have put into developing new innovative approaches to informing a wider cohort.”
