Laura Doel, director of school leaders’ union NAHT Cymru, said: “NAHT Cymru welcomes the news that an additional £5.5m will be given to Local Authorities to fund the 2020/21 pay offer.
“Our concern was always that a pay offer would cripple school funding, we have made this clear to the government and the Education Minister Kirsty Williams has listened.
“Details of how that money will be spend and if it will cover the pay award in full are yet to be revealed so we will continue to work with Local Authorities and the government to ensure that money goes directly to schools.
“We remain concerned that the gap between teachers and leadership pay is narrowing which will continue to hamper recruitment and retention of school leaders in Wales.”
