Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to announce that wicket-keeper Tom Cullen has signed a new one-year contract extension with the club.

Cullen joined Glamorgan in 2017 and has played 16 first-class matches for the Welsh county. He has taken 45 catches with one stumping and struck four half-centuries.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2019 when he stepped in as wicket-keeper for the injured Chris Cooke, scoring over 300 first-class runs at an average over 35.

The Australian-born Cardiff MCCU product also captained the second team to the 2nd XI T20 title at Arundel that season.

Speaking after signing his new contract, Cullen, said: “I’m really excited to get a new contract.

“I try to bring an edge to the team, the brashness and feistiness that Matt Maynard talks about. We want to have the attitude of standing up and show we are not going to be pushovers.

“I want to recapture my form of 2019 as we keep making strides towards being the team we want to be.”

Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace, said: “Tom has shown himself to a tough cricketer who brings a steeliness to the side when he plays and has previously shown he can play those difficult knocks that help get a side over the line.

“The competition between Chris and Tom helps keep them on their toes, and being able to play both of them in the same time gives us a lot of flexibility, and is crucial to balance a side over the course of the season.

“Tom wants to be more consistent with the bat, and we’ll do everything we can to help him continue to progress as a player, and we’re looking forward to another year with him in the squad bringing that competitive fire.”
