If you need to talk, we’re here to listen: call the British Red Cross coronavirus telephone support line
With ‘firebreak’ restrictions coming into force across Wales, here at the British Red Cross we are encouraging people to call 0808 1963651 if they feel lonely, worried or in need of assistance.
Like everybody else, I got a bit frustrated when coronavirus started as being in the vulnerable category, I couldn’t carry on with my usual volunteering. I can see the sense of staying home, it’s to protect us. But it can take its toll and if people need to talk to someone, Red Cross volunteers are here to help.
People call the support line with a specific request or because they don’t know where to go for advice. The issues that come up are varied. It can be anything, psychosocial support or people who need food, medicine or supplies for their pets. You just don’t know.
Some people need practical help, others need advice or someone to talk to. There are quite a few people who are phoning up because they feel lonely.
We know that when people are caught up in a crisis, everyone’s needs are different, and the ‘firebreak’ will impact people all over Wales in different ways. The most important thing we can do now is start talking about our problems, what we find difficult and how we are feeling. Then those who are struggling can talk about things before they escalate.
We want to make sure that people are getting the help they need during this time. Call our free and confidential coronavirus support line on 0808 196 3651 to chat to a friendly British Red Cross volunteer. The service is free, completely confidential and open daily from 10am to 6pm. If you need to talk, we’re here to listen.
