A beautiful, handmade, oak table made by carpenter Andrew Evans of Llanllwni has been auctioned to raise funds for the local NHS.

The table raised a fantastic Β£1,500, which Andrew has donated to the A&E Department at Glangwili Hospital.

Carpenter and joiner Andrew, 62, has been in the trade since he was 16 and produces his own wood from logs for his furniture.

When he was stuck at home during lockdown, he decided to make an oak table with resin in it – something he had always wanted to have a go at.

The table, which is 6’ by 2’6”, was made over several weeks from spalted oak and much time was spent polishing the resin up and waxing the finished piece.

Then Andrew decided he would auction the table off for the local NHS, because of all the hard work being put in by staff.

He said: β€œI chose the A&E Department at Glangwili Hospital to benefit from the money raised because I have Eirwyn Hopkins working with me and his wife Sandra is a sister in A&E.

β€œThe staff there have been on the front line and Sandra even moved out of their family home to keep her young children safe.

β€œI wanted to do something to say thank you.”

It was a sealed bid auction and was very close at the finish.

β€œA farming family from Llandysul, Bercoed Uchaf, were the successful bidders and the final bid was actually placed from abroad on social media!” added Andrew.
