We are a small friendly club covering the area of the Gower Peninsula, Gowerton, Gorseinon and in recent years expanding through Llanelli to Kidwelly.

15 years ago, we started our annual appeal “Tree of Light” remembering a loved one or friend, near or far, past or present at Christmas. For a minimum donation of five pounds we send a specially designed card to you for the person you are remembering.  Under normal circumstances we  read out the names at our annual Christmas concert and display the names at a  local church, However this year its slightly different due to COVID-19.

Lion Liz and myself David live in Pembrey and realise this year has been difficult for many not only losing family or friends but for those with work restrictions and loss of earnings.

Our club has decided to try and help the Pembrey and Burry Port community by extending our Tree of Light as a separate appeal in this area, with donations going to Pembrey and Burry Port Food bank for the Christmas 2020 Feed a Family Food Hampers for those needing help this Christmas. We aim to assist them as much as possible.

The names of those being remembered will be listed and placed in Shop windows in Burry Port In the 2 weeks before Christmas.

Lions Clubs International are a worldwide service organisation with 1.5 million members and was founded by Melvin Jones in Chicago USA 102 Years ago. Our motto is “We Serve” and every penny we raise goes to good causes helping others.

Due to the pandemic and Lockdowns our club has been unable to raise money but has made donations of Tins of biscuits for nurses at Morriston and Prince Phillip Hospitals as well as food and Baby needs to St Catherine’s Church Food Hub, Gorseinon and Pembrey & Burry Port Food Banks.

In this most difficult and different year, our members wish you all a happier peaceful Christmas and a safe and healthy 2021
