Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for Ynys Mon, Rhun ap Iorwerth, who has tabled a question to the First Minister on Brexit preparations in Holyhead, said,

“The lack of preparedness for the end of transition as we leave the EU is staggering. We’re just weeks away, and computer systems haven’t been tested, and there’s no new border infrastructure in place. There’s a real risk of serious congestion and all the inconvenience that’ll bring locally, and any slowdown in the flow of trade is bound to have a negative impact on the fortunes of Holyhead as a port and the jobs it supports.

“There are even fears that congestion and delays could lead to an increased covid risk at Holyhead. Professor of Health Policy at Imperial College London tells me he’s concerned that a failure to introduce  adequate health and safety measures as long-distance drivers wait to cross in Holyhead could lead to transmission of the virus.”
