Commenting ahead of today’s crunch vote on the Internal markets Bill in the House of Lords, Welsh Lib Dem Peer Lord German said:

“Unless the Government accepts that serious changes need to be made to the Internal Market Bill, it will trample on the rights of the devolved nations – not just the rule of law.

“The joint amendment which is tabled and supported by Liberal Democrat, Labour, and Crossbench peers today is clear: this Bill cannot proceed without the agreement of all four nations in the United Kingdom. If we want the United Kingdom to survive, then the UK government has to respect the Union and have regard for its future.

“The Liberal Democrats will always oppose any attempts by this Government to ride roughshod over the devolution settlement.”
