Macmillan Cymru Wales supports people in Swansea and across Wales living with cancer by offering emotional, physical, and financial advice. The charity cares for people from diagnosis through to treatment and also helps patients receiving follow-up care.
Macmillan Cymru Wales works with patients to explain different treatment options, helps with side effects and gives recommendations on how to eat healthily and stay active. The charity also helps patients plan their finances and offers grants and specialist advice.
The donation will go towards helping staff at Macmillan Information Centre for a week; helping people affected by cancer to find information and support. The team based in the Macmillan Information Pods in the Swansea Bay NHS area have worked remotely during the Covid-19 crisis to ensure that this essential service has been maintained over the telephone and virtually, at a time when people affected by cancer have needed support more than ever.
Chris Law, General Manager at Amazon in Swansea, said: “We are proud to make this donation to Macmillan Cymru Wales, a charity which offers great support to those affected by cancer. We’d like to thank all of the charity’s staff and volunteers for their vital service and dedication.”
Nikki James, Area Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, added: “We would like to say thank you to Chris and the Amazon team in Swansea for their support. This donation will allow us to continue to support and care for patients in Swansea and across Wales.”
The donation was made as part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.
Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering 1.4 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
