Set to come out next year, the third addition in the Captain America franchise and the 13th instalment, not counting Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes a whole new change to the MCU as we know it. A time where all is not so black and white, but more grey than anything ells.
With such stars reappearing like Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Anthony Mackie as Falcon plus Chadwick Boseman making his first début as Black Panther, rumours say we could also expect to see such characters like Spider-Man, Crossbones, Daredevil, Ant-Man, Sharon Carter, Baron Zemo, Abomination who featured in the Incredible Hulk movie of 2006 and also said to appear will be Death-lock a cyborg and Quake of the Inhumans who have been introduced through the Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series… AWSOME!
Captain America: Civil War is built around a seven issue limited series in (2006/2007) written by Mark Miller and pencilled by Steve McNiven, who built the storyline surrounding the events in Marvel Comic Crossover events in Avengers Disassembled, House of M, Decimation and Silent War. If the movie is as every bit amazing as the comic series, then prepare to have your breath stolen!
In the story-line of the film, following the events of Age of Ultron we see Tony Stark implement what’s called the Superhero Registration Act. It’s basically a law forcing people with superhuman abilities to register themselves, giving their identities and agreeing to work for the government. This splits the Avengers with Stark fighting on the side of government and Steve fighting against them believing it violates their civil rights.
We’re looking at a whole new side of superheroes here people. There going for grittier realism from here on. Basically the way Marvel are playing it is how after the events of Ultron, with so much death he caused this is how the government could possible respond to such an incident if superheroes actually existed. But how will the heroes respond to the government? Who will they fight aside with, Iron Man… Or Captain America?
But what could this mean for the Avengers in the future? Between team Stark and team Cap fighting against one another as the battles rage on, could the people develop a lack of trust for the heroes, making them retreat back into the shadows? What will happen for phase three? Will future films be a whole lot darker after Civil War and will it play a part in them? We’ll have to wait and see so buckle up people… It’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Personally I’m agnostic about the government but I think I would side with Stark. Considering he’s the world’s foremost expert on science and technology, he’s the best chance of making the Avengers a better, more affective team… Although he may have good intentions, this may not be the best way to go about it. Like I said, I’m agnostic! And Captain America, well he’s still got his head in the past as far as I’m concerned… a pure technophobe! So the question is, who’s side are you on?
Due to be released on April 29th 2016.
