The year of Rugby is over and England are now the winners of both the Six Nations and Autumn Nations cups. However, the performance of the Welsh side is not to be overlooked. With an outstanding performance across the board, the injury of Jones could not have come at a worse time for the squad. In this article, we will be providing you with insight into the knee injury and what this could mean for the welsh side ahead of the start of the Six Nations and how it could affect betting odds.

The Six Nations 2020

2020 has been a strange one for everyone as the world was forced into lockdown at the hands of the pandemic. As a result, the world of sport was put on hold with the Six Nations being postponed until further notice. Back in October. With the tournament starting earlier in the year, the pandemic paused play just before England were due to verse Italy in October.

However, just a few months after the passing of the Six Nations rugby, restrictions were lifted with Protocol in place allowing for sporting to continue in empty stadiums. This meant that people from all over the UK were poised and ready to enjoy the thrill of Rugby once again on their TV screens just before the festive period. This saw some of the best of the best rugby players going head-to-head to get the winning title. At the end of the Six Nations, we saw England win the title after France managed to beat Ireland in their match-up.

The Introduction Of The Autumn Nations Final

In addition to the Six Nations Tournament, the world of rugby has welcomed another title in the form of the Autumn Nations Title hosted by Amazon Video. This was another chance for the Irish side to come out on top with bookies such as Betway and 22bet placing them as one of the top teams to win the tournament, reflecting on the best odds being offered across different bookies. With the nation behind them, it was looking so positive for the team that was looking strong as always, strongly supported by bettors. With a strong defensive line as well as a coach that works for the team in their best possible positions, the Welsh side started off strong.

With many games being won at the early stages and outstanding performance against England, the Welsh team were able to finish the championship in second position in group A just 5 points behind the overall winners. Though this was a strong performance from them, this did not come without injury as their captain had a knee injury sustained during their game vs Italy.

A Knee Injury For The Welsh Captain

Despite having several injuries throughout his career Alun Wyn Jones has been a regular face out on the pitch for the welsh side and is one of the strongest captains that they have ever seen. However, during the Autumn Nations Match between Wales and Italy, he sustained a knee injury with damage to the medial ligament that could spell huge problems for the Welsh side as the six nations draw nearer. Due to the nature of the injury to the medial ligaments, there are some wondering whether he would be able to heal in time for the Six Nations start in February.

Though this injury does not require any form of surgery, the recovery time for this form of injury could be a grand total of 10 weeks. Though this is a best-case scenario for the player, it is entirely possible that this could be even longer should the ligaments not be healing properly. With over 152 caps for the team at this stage in his career, he is the most capped player in international history and will not want to miss out on this match. With wales and Ireland set to verse each other in Cardiff on the 7th at home as well as the visit to Scotland on the 13th of Feb, it is looking as though Jones may not be available to play until the game against England on the 27th of February where hopefully he will be fit enough to play.

Whether you have been following the rugby closely or you are new to following this sport, we are sure that the upcoming six nations tournament will see both Wales and England going head-to-head with one another in some of the best rugby match-ups we have ever seen.
