A treatment that utilises the power of the muscles in the face could be the secret to staying young looking.
That is the view of Dr Nick Mohindra, who in the course of his work as a dentist in Wimpole Street, invented a mouthpiece device for people to wear for short periods to sharpen up their features without injections, surgery or chemicals.
The Oralift device was originally only available through dentists, but has now been developed with an accompanying app, enabling the user to follow simple instructions to carry out their own cosmetic treatment at home.
“Wrinkles, face shape, uneven features and ageing all concern people and can be the result of how we use our facial muscles,” said Nick.
“Although fillers and cosmetic surgery can help people to look younger there is an alternative and more natural method to rejuvenate the face. It’s achieved, not by exercise, but by the body’s natural ability to adapt.
“Originally, people had to go to a dental surgery for this treatment, but the do-it-yourself version and app now enables us to help more people.”
Nick says the world is divided into “grinders” and “slackers.” Grinders overwork their facial muscles whereas slackers underwork them.
“Oralift works on both underworked and overworked facial muscles because when the device is worn, the jaw has to rest in a new position, causing the muscles to have to adapt – strengthening and relaxing them accordingly.”
The Oralift evolved from a device which has been in use in dentistry for almost 100 years. Nick used this initially for his ‘Dental Facelift’ procedures published in the British Dental Journal in 1996 and 2002.
The product which has been patented and peer-reviewed in the Open Dentistry Journal, is now selling worldwide. All subjects reported improvement in their cheek definition, that their skin looked better, and a reversal of the downward migration of the soft tissues of the face caused by aging.
