Remember the toxic pesticides that wipe out bees? Yesterday, an influential group of scientists concluded that they donât just kill bees – they wreak âhavocâ with other insects and plants in the countryside too. [1]
Back in 2013, 38 Degrees members worked with campaigners across Europe to get these pesticides banned in the EU. But the ban could be lifted in December. [2]
Four weeks away from our election, we need to make sure now that the next government will protect our bees. The political parties will publish their manifestos – what they promise to do if voted in – very soon. Right now, theyâre dotting the iâs and crossing the tâs – and scrabbling for the ideas thatâll get them a bump in the polls.
So in the wake of yesterdayâs damning report, letâs get a promise for the bees. A huge petition now could make sure that every party includes an extra line in their manifesto: a promise to ban bee-killing pesticides in the UK for good. And after the election, weâll hold their feet to the fire until they do it. Click here to sign the petition:

Bees pollinate apples, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, cauliflowers, onions, cabbages, broccoli, carrots and many, many more of our fruit and veg. [3]Â Without bees, we wouldnât last very long!
Bees donât have a voice, but 38 Degrees members have a history of fighting for them. [4] We campaigned hard for the EU ban. Together we need to make sure that the next government, whoever they are, upholds it. If we want to keep our fields green, our hedgerows full of flowers and our bees alive, we have to.
A manifesto promise from every party is the first step. They know the public wonât stand for broken election promises. The beauty of a written pledge is that we can hold them to it. Click here to sign the petition:
