During Plenary today (January 19), Andrew RT Davies MS questioned the Health Minister over the Welsh Government’s Covid vaccination plan, and said a lack of strategy and poor communication is harming the programme and the public’s confidence.

Mr Davies – the Shadow Health Minister – said:

“We want the government’s vaccination programme to be a success, because if that succeeds, then so does Wales.”

Using the example of the First Minister’s messaging yesterday, which was later contradicted by another Cabinet member, he cited comments from Dr David Bailey, Chair of the British Medical Association in Wales, who said that he was “deeply concerned” with what the First  said on holding back vaccine doses, and described the Welsh Government’s approach as “bewildering”.

Mr Davies said:

“It’s vital that the Welsh Government reassures the people of Wales, and makes absolutely clear how it will ramp up the delivery of it, and guarantees us all the milestone of vaccinating 70 percent of care home staff and residents, and 70 percent over the over-80s by Friday this week.

“Public confidence is slipping, and the programme must get back on track to remove the anxiety felt by so many.”
