Two Pembrokeshire residents have been presented with their British Empire Medals awarded in the New Year’s Honours List for services to the community.

Councillor Mrs Glenys James from St Davids and Dr John Harrison from Tenby, received their medals from the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, The Hon. Robin Lewis OBE, on Thursday at County Hall, Haverfordwest.

Councillor Mrs James has served on St Davids City Council for 28 years and has been Mayor on four occasions.

She has also helped restart the Brownies troop in St Davids and also stepped into the breach when a new leader of the Girl Guides was needed.

Her other interests include the Over 50s Forum, the local carnival committee and the St Davids Day Eisteddfod held in City Hall.

Married for 43 years, the mother of two also has long standing links with the National Trust.

Dr John Harrison is the organist and Director of Music at St Mary’s Church, Tenby.

A pupil at Greenhill School, Tenby – where his father was Deputy Headmaster – he studied music at Aberystwyth University.

From 1972 to 1974 he was conductor of the University College of Wales Choral Union and has broadcast on both television and radio.

An accomplished composer and arranger, Dr Harrison was musical director of the Griffon Choir from 2004 to 2008 and currently plays the organ for Tenby Male Voice Choir of which he is on Honorary Vice President.

In 2010 he received the Archibishop of Wales Award for Church Music.

The medals were presented at a ceremony hosted by the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor Tom Richards.
