The County Council has recently completed work on a ‘missing link’ in the Coast Path at Gwbert. The new public footpath leads from near the entrance to Cardigan Island Farm Park on the Gwbert – Ferwig road to Mwnt.

The development of the link was carried out over recent weeks by a combination of Council countryside staff, volunteers and contractors. It has included the installation of gates, boardwalks, bridges and surface improvements and waymarker posts have been provided so that the route is clearly defined. The work was supported by Welsh Government funding as part of the development of the Wales Coast Path.

The new section of coastal path offers impressive view of Cardigan Island and the National Trust headland at Foel y Mwnt. It will be a major asset to the area and will help support the local economy.

The importance of the Coast Path to the economy has been widely recognised. A Cardiff Business School report produced in 2012 found that the Wales Coast Path attracted nearly 3 million visitors over a 12 month period and added £32 million to the Welsh economy.

A spokesperson from the County Council said “we are pleased to complete the final path link in Ceredigion. The Wales Coast Path is internationally recognised and this new section can help support local businesses and we are sure it will be valued by the wider community. Thanks are due to all those involved in the work in particular the contribution made by volunteers”.
