In response to the news that stores under the Arcadia group including Topshop will not be saved, Plaid Cymru Shadow Minister for Economy, Helen Mary Jones MS said,
“The loss of stores under the Arcadia group will mean the loss of a significant number of jobs across Wales.
“This is another blow to the Welsh high street following the announcement that Debenhams stores will be shut, and will likely not be the last closure affecting Welsh jobs to be announced. It is particularly worrying that the majority of those losing their jobs will be women – already hit hard economically by the pandemic.
“Both the Welsh and UK Government must support those affected, and must ensure there will be other employment opportunities in the face of the pandemic’s impact on the high street.”
