Pembrokeshire County Council is urging members of the public to be careful before buying goods from ‘the back of vans’.
It follows complaints to the Council’s Public Protection Division of cold callers selling mattresses from the back of vans at low prices.
Trading Standards Officers are concerned that the beds being offered for sale may not be described accurately, could be unsafe and not of the same quality and safety standards as those offered for sale by reputable traders.
They advise that anyone offered goods for sale from the back of a van, or uninvited at the doorstep, should be highly suspicious.
“Goods sold in this way may be stolen, counterfeit, unsafe or simply overpriced,” said Trading Standards Manager, Nigel Watts.
“Our advice is not to deal with traders in this way as if any problems do arise with the product the sellers will no longer be around to sort them out.”
