Pembrey & Burry Port Carnival 2010

Welcome to the official web page of The Pembrey & Burry Port Summer Carnival 2010 organised by the Pembrey & Burry Port Community Forum.

History of the Carnival

Pembrey & Burry Port will be celebrating its 65th year. The carnival started in May 1945 to mark the ending of World War II, we are led to believe the date was later changed to being held on the 1st Saturday in July due to bad weather in previous years. The Carnival Committee took advice from the local RAF base in Pembrey, who advised them that they found the best time due to weather conditions for their flight testing was the first week in July and that this would an ideal time to hold the carnival. From then on 65 years later the Carnival is still being held on the 1st Saturday in July. The Carnival also has a reputation for orchestrating many courtships and marriages. We are asking everyone to dig deep into their photo albums for any old pictures of all the previous carnivals so we can publish them in our memorabilia.
