YOUNGSTERS in the Gwendraeth Valley have helped to clean up a local housing estate with the help of Tidy Towns.

Members of the Gwendraeth Valley Youth Forum took part in a litter-pick at Maesywern in Carway. It was organised by the Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS) in partnership with Tidy Towns and the council’s housing department as part of its Environmental Works Project.

The council’s housing officers have been working with residents to find out what they would like to be done to improve the estate. The clean-up was held before works started on a new recreation area.

The council’s executive board member for regeneration Councillor Clive Scourfield said: “I am delighted that Tidy Towns was able to support this project. By working together we can make a real difference to the area in which we live and improve the quality of the local environment for both residents and visitors.”

Tidy Towns is a Welsh Assembly Government-funded initiative delivered in partnership by the council and Keep Wales Tidy. The aim is to encourage and support communities to improve the quality of their local environment.
