The annual Awards which are in their 10th year, recognise good road safety practice, innovative projects and personal contributions being undertaken in Wales. The Wales Road Safety Awards are presented in recognition of individuals, groups and organisations that have made a real commitment to road safety – above and beyond what would normally have been expected of them. Award recipients are not road safety professionals, but they have been undertaking road safety professionally.

She works tirelessly promoting  safety through various sources including the local press. She is continually fund raising for the group and in her own time looks for ideas for future campaigns/events.

Joanne organises Walking Buses for 4 primary schools and has assisted in sourcing funding for Hi-Visibility vests. She also volunteers to deliver the Kerbcraft scheme and throughout June 2010 she organised and delivered a Road Safety Road Show.

In 2009 she also supported the Road Safety Unit Child Safety Day. Joanne has a passion for road safety and has been extremely proactive in her promotion of a variety of road safety project in her community. All her efforts and time have been given freely and she is a perfect example of how to promote road safety with nothing more than passion and commitment.

Joanne said: “I was very honoured to receive a nomination and an award. Donna Davies of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Road Safety Team nominated me and I was delighted to be told that I was one of 5 winners. Road Safety is very important to me as I want my children to grow up in a community where it is safe to cross the roads. I can’t do all the things I do without the support of the Safer Communities Action Group, Communities First, the community at large and many other partners and service providers.”
