The Time Santa came to Visit!

By Jonathan Williams

It was the week before Christmas and the Llanellitown.com office were visited by a VVVVIP.  That’s a very, very, very, very important person!

Who visited us?  None other than Santa Claus and he came to give us a ‘Santa Official Interview!’

Excitedly, I stood outside our offices and watched as his reindeers and sleigh flew over the roof tops of Penyfan and then saw it landing without much fuss in our special designated Santa Sleigh Park.

Greeting Santa, I ask if we had caused him much disruption by him visiting us?  “Oh, no ho ho” he roared, “I like to do these things and it gives the little Llanelli Boys and Girls more time to get to bed.”

We go into our offices and sit down to start our official interview.  I offer Santa some milk to drink and we start talking.  First off I tell him that three little boys and girls have sent us some questions for him to answer.

First couple of questions come from Caitlin Yeo, who is 6yrs old.

“Ah, yes I know Caitlin.  She lives in Seaside and goes to Copperworks School.  They’re an Eco School who has just had another green flag awarded!”

What do you get for Mrs. Claus and what does she get you for Christmas?

“I spoil her with flowers and chocolates.  She also likes pop music so I took her to London recently to see Lady Gaga, all in disguise though!

“Mrs Claus usually gives me jumpers, as I always wear them out working in the toy factory.  I think she is also booking me in with some computer training as it all seems a bit strange to me!”

Where do you go for holidays?

“As I love Christmas so much, we go to Christmas Island of course.  Mrs Claus likes to go to different places and last summer we visited New Zealand and parts of Europe.

“Though I must say, your Millennium Coastal looks very nice.  Who knows, you might see me cycling along it next summer!”

Our second child is Callum Handscomb aged 7.

“Callum lives by Peoples Park.  You know he went to Butlins by train on holidays sometime ago and the train had problems.  Should have taken the sleigh!  Ha ha ha!”

Who is the naughtiest reindeer?

“Well they can all be a bit difficult sometimes, well more restless.  Especially this time of the year as they get nervous and all the energy has been building up just to deliver your presents.  I wouldn’t say that one was naughtier than the other though.

“What we have in the North pole though is a school for naughty reindeer.  We try and stop them from being naughty so that one day they might have a chance to pull the sleigh.”

What does Santa do if there is no chimney?

“I do like to keep a few things secret so that I can always surprise the children that I’m visiting.  All I can say to this question is that I use a little bit of magic.”

What is his favourite song?

“I love all the usual Christmas songs, but my particular favourite is Jingle Bells, all together now!

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh, hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh, hey!

What is his favourite food?

“Well I love cookies of course, but I’m always happy to try anything and the reindeer just love their carrots!”

Our last questions come from Lawrence Williams aged 7.

“Aha, Lawrence.  Yes, he lives in Penyfan and goes to Stebonheath School.  He watches too much Chuggington in the mornings and doesn’t get dressed quick enough.  Though he has tidied his bedroom.”

How do the reindeer fly?

“A long time ago my helpers and I discovered magical oats and corn.  When the reindeer eat the oats and corn they become able to fly and leap high into the air.

How do I become an elf?

“The best way is to do well in school and be good. Then, who knows??”

How does Santa’s sleigh make it around the world in one day?

“Through a combination of, lots of practice, hard work, use of time zones and a little magic.  Don’t worry children, we always make it on time!”

What are the names of Santa’s reindeer?

“The reindeer that pull the sleigh are: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder (or Donner, he likes both since some of the small reindeer have trouble saying ‘Donder’), Blitzen, and of course Rudolph. There are many other reindeer that live at the North Pole but there is not room to list them all.”

That’s all of the questions Santa, do you have any last words for all the Llanelli Boys and Girls?

“Yes, I do.  Remember boys and girls that you shouldn’t just be good before Christmas.  You must be good all year round.   Now, on Christmas Eve go to bed early and if you’ve been good then there’ll be a surprise for you in the morning.”

I thank Santa and help him onto his sleigh.  Then I watch as the reindeer start to run and all of a sudden it rises into the air and heads off over Trostre.  He’s gone to continue checking all the Llanelli Boys and Girls are being good and
are in bed early.

Merry Christmas from Llanellitown.com!
