Councils to rely on technology in 2011
Small businesses operating in the UK’s technology sector could be set for a busy year in 2011.
According to a recent ComRes report, councils in England and Wales feel that they will need to rely more heavily on technology to deliver services over the coming 12 months as a result of public sector spending cuts,
The study, commissioned by technology trade body Intellect, revealed that 70 per cent of councillors feel technology will play a greater part in their ability to deliver various services this year.
Furthermore, 84 per cent said their local authority is open to new way of employing technology to improve efficiency.
This could see a number of tech projects given the green light and outsourced to small tech firms across the UK.
Charles Ward, chief operating officer of Intellect, said: “Technology is a powerful tool that can be used to help local authorities to tackle this dual challenge of achieving cost savings while improving the way services are delivered.
“It is really encouraging to see that local councillors are aware of the potential that technology offers to solve the problems.”
