The Rookz
“The Rookz were formed in January 2010 as the brainchild of two friends, Jordan Chappell and Darren Richards. They called upon other close mates, and with a matter of a few weeks, were putting together covers. What started off as a ‘bit of fun’ suddenly started to get more serious, as the music started to sound better.
Shortly after forming, the name ‘The Rookz’ was established, and the band started to put music to lyrics written by Jordan. The Rookz were beggining to make a name for themselves in the South Wales area, performing gigs in Llanelli, Swansea and Port Talbot,
After a successful start, The Rookz entered the South Wales Battle of The Bands competition, and were announced the winners in August 2010, after performing all of their own material.Â
Late 2010 saw The Rookz gigging at larger top Welsh venues including Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff and the Monkey Bar in Swansea. The Rookz played their first acoustic set live on air at Radio Tir Coed.
November 2010; The Rookz record their debut EP - Monster, with the lead single called Monster (In My Pants). Â
In January 2011, The Rookz signed to welsh independent label Slick Records. It is this label that The Rookz will be releasing their debut EP under, for global digital distribution in early 2011. Welsh radio station Nation Radio feature The Rookz single Monster (In My Pants) on air for the first time. The Rookz play Monster live to the current and former First Minister of Wales (Rhodri Morgan and Carwyn Jones) at the Atrium in Cardiff at the Yes Campaign.
The Rookz are set to record their debut album in March 2011 at Sonic One studio’s, under the supervision of Tim Hamill.
2011 is looking to be a busy year with plans of a tour accross Wales and England’
