African Adventurer Joanne gives thanks

Local community volunteer and Llanellitown.com member Joanne Yeo has been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of others recently. Joanne is flying out to Ghana in May with charity “Hands Around The World” to volunteer at the MisthyCee project which runs a children’s home and school.

Joanne had to raise £2000 within 6 short weeks to enable her to volunteer on the project. Monies raised covers flights, insurance and visas with the remainder being put towards the new build of a school dining hall; they currently do not have one.

In order to raise the funds, Joanne set about on a big fundraising spree which included; Teddy Bears Picnic, Bake Sale, Pamper Day, Social Evening, recipe books and a Laser Fun Fundraiser. In addition to these, Joanne received support from local schools; Coedcae Comprehensive School, Copperworks Infant School and Ysgol Maes Y Morfa.

Prizes for raffles arrived, friends and family rallied round and donations were made on her charity page www.bmycharity.com/joanneyeo.

Joanne said “The support I’ve received has been absolutely amazing!”

The schools all rallied round and friends were emailing and ringing asking what they could do to help. Strangers have donated. It has really reassured me that although these are difficult financial times for people, projects like this still strike a chord with a people. I’m so very grateful for everyone’s kindness, support and generosity.
