Renault and British Gas leading the electric car charge
Renault and British Gas have announced plans to collaborate and spearhead the drive towards greater electric vehicle uptake in the UK.
The agreement with Renault, announced at the technical forum for the RAC Future Car Challenge, means that British Gas will supply and install electric vehicle charge points in homes and businesses across the country.
Recent market analysis predicts that around 70 per cent of the electric vehicle market in the UK in 2012 will be supplied by British Gas charging points.
Dean Keeling, managing director of British Gas Smart Homes, said the market for electric vehicles in growing rapidly in the UK and believes the firm can help the industry and consumers increase uptake.
“With our national network of electrical engineers, our electricity supply business, our solar panel business and our roll out of smart meters, British Gas is well placed to be at the forefront of that market,” he explained.
Transport for London (TfL) recently established the UK’s largest electric vehicle and charge point procurement framework worth over £70 million which will speed up the delivery of charging points.
