FREE HEALTH DAY OFFERS TASTY TREATS & ADVICE!

 

FRUIT kebabs and Smoothie drinks will be just some of the tasty treats on offer at a free health event to be held in Llanelli on Thursday, July 14.

 

The ‘Good Health for Life’ event will be held at Lakefield Hall in Lakefield Road, between 12pm and 2pm, and will also include taster sessions for complimentary therapies plus free information from a variety of health and charitable stands. Members of the public will also be able to create their very own healthy drinks, thanks to a unique Smoothie Bike from the cancer charity, Tenovus!

The event is the result of partnership working between the Screening Division of Public Health Wales and the Llanelli Multicultural Network.

Held during Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMNCW), the event is open to the whole community.

Laura Hancock, a multi-cultural project worker with the Network commented: “We will have lots of fun activities – people will be able to have a go at making fruit kebabs and take a ride on a special Smoothie Bike to create their very own custom made Smoothie drink! There will also be lots more activities and stands for people to pick up useful free information.”

Alison Clement, a Screening Promotion Officer with Public Health Wales, which runs the breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening programmes commented: “We are delighted to be working with Llanelli Multicultural Network to hold this event. We have developed strong links with the Network and admire the valuable work which they carry out within the ethnic minority population.

“Awareness of cancer and the uptake of some of the cancer screening programmes is lower among ethnic minorities, so we are keen to encourage more awareness of our services. However, the event will be open to everyone and we very much hope that as many people as possible will attend, and help us to spread positive health messages throughout the town of Llanelli.”
