“A supposed member of ‘Windows Support team’ called my Mum from a call centre, possibly in India, and said that her computer had been compromised by a virus and that they could fix it by having remote access to her computer and installing software for around £140.”
“My Mum has a breadth of experience with IT and is pretty skeptical about any cold calls, but she admitted that this call did sound vaguely plausible.”
“The game was only given away when she was passed onto another person as it was obvious that they didn’t know what they were talking about and when she said that she’d rather not pay the £140 for the anti virus software and she would get some for £30 from the high street”
“The call centre staff swore down the phone, obviously because she wasn’t being compliant. She put the phone down but was still really concerned as they said that they had remotely accessed her laptop. She has since changed all of her passwords on any of the regular internet sites she used.”
