Keep Wales Tidy Week 19-25 September
This September, environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy will put the people of Wales to the test by calling on them to take part in a week- long, nationwide, cleanup of littered black spots in towns, villages and the countryside.
Sponsored by the Welsh Government, Tidy Wales Week will take place from the 19 – 25th September and Keep Wales Tidy are hoping that people living in every corner of the country will show how much they care for their local area by getting involved in hands-on, problem-solving action.
Last year over 32,000 people of all ages did their bit to clean up their neighbourhoods and as a result many long standing litter blots on the landscape were removed. The week of action resulted in thousands of bags of litter being recovered by volunteers at over 1,000 locations.
To assist groups, Keep Wales Tidy has equipment available for loan, and project officers can also offer assistance in organising clean-ups. All events that are registered on the Keep Wales Tidy website will be covered by free insurance, will receive health and safety guidelines and useful information for organising a safe, fun event.
This year, as part of Tidy Wales Week, Keep Wales Tidy is also launching the ‘Three Rivers Challenge’. Funded by Environment Wales, the aim is to get community groups, businesses and volunteers to help clean-up the Rivers Ebbw, Ogmore and Teifi over 3 consecutive weekends. To get involved please contact 029 2072 6994, email tidy.towns@keepwalestidy.org.

Lesley Jones, Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy commented. “We hear constant complaints in the press and on TV about the state of our streets, beaches and rivers. The truth is that resolving many of the problems highlighted lies in our own hands. People create litter and with a little bit of effort we could make a massive dent in the annual £50 million plus it costs to remove our rubbish and waste.”
She added “We live in busy times but most of us could spare a couple of hours to improve the visual appearance of our surroundings. Please help us to make a difference.”
