College at WorldSkills London
Coleg Sir Gar will be at WorldSkills London 2011 next week showcasing the talents of college students.
David Bowen, an IT student is the only student in Wales to be selected to compete and he is taking part in the Web Design category.
The BA honours sculpture students will be casting a spell of hot Celtic magic with a moulten iron pour – a magnificent sight which sees hot iron cast into moulds to create works of art.
A level students Anthony Howells, Katie Phillips and Richard Jones will be taking part in the Environmental Science competition.
“During the final, the team will be expected to produce a sustainable energy plan including a plan for CO2 reduction,” said Steve Bell, head of A levels and access. “They will also present their research and findings to a judging panel consisting of three industry experts. We’re so thrilled to have a team competing as such a high profile event, they’ve done incredibly well.”
The engineering department will be demonstrating their Robotino, a camera-clad robot operated from a computer and a state of the art robotic arm used in design and manufacturing.
The college would like to wish David and the A level students the very best of luck on this international stage and to all at the college who are supporting the event with showcases and exhibitions.
Transport has been provided for staff and students to attend a day at the event, which is taking place at London’s ExCeL from 5-8 October.
