Phone Scam Warning

Dyfed-Powys Police is warning people not to fall victim to a Phone scam, which targets members of the public who have taken out Loan Payment Protection Insurance (PPI).

The force has received a report about a company, which states they deal with payouts for PPI and are contacting people to reimburse money.

During a phone call the would-be victim is told they are owed a significant sum of money… in relation to a loan taken out previously. They are then advised to obtain a UK Credit Voucher for £250 as an administration fee – and once money had been paid they would visit the recipient’s address with the cash payment from the PPI Insurance Claim.

Dyfed-Powys Police is advising members of the public to hang up and ignore these callers as it is a well-known scam.

Detective Sergeant Alison Thomas said: “We always warn the public that they should never deal with unidentifiable people or traders, in person, over the phone and online. We are urging members of the community to be vigilant following this scam. Please stop and think carefully before engaging with people you don’t know and handing over money – and remember, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people not to disclose any personal bank details to anyone and remember to shred any documents containing confidential information.”
