What’s On in Glanymor & Tyisha Communities First Wards

After the great success of the Ethnic Minority Help Association’s (EMHA’s) very first Bhangra Night, the EMHA have organised or are taking part in the following events in October 2011:

  • Tuesday 11th October from 4pm – 6pm, Women’s Only Group ‘Bollywood Dance Classes’, Funded by Communities First Trust Fund, Venue: The Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli, SA15 2NE

  • Thursdays (Dates to be confirmed), Women’s Only Group ‘Cooking Classes’, Funded by Communities First Trust Fund Venue: The Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli, SA15 2NE

  • Tuesday 11th October from 12pm – 2pm (Every Tuesday for 7 weeks), Women’s Only Group ‘Make Up Course’, Funded by Communities First Trust Fund, Venue: Glanymor & Tyisha Communities First Library room

  • Friday 7th October from 10am – 11:30am (Every Friday for 5 weeks), Women’s Only Group ‘Why Weight – Mind over Matter sessions’, Funded by Communities First Trust Fund, Venue: Glanymor & Tyisha Communities First Library room

  • Friday 14th October from 10am – 1pm, Environment and Regeneration Action Group promotional DVD Launch, Venue: The Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli, SA15 2NE

Engagement Gateway Project Courses working in partnership with Minority Ethnic Women’s Network (MEWN) Swansea

  • Wednesday 12th October (Every Wednesday for 10 weeks), Driving Theory Classes (Women’s Only)

To qualify for the course you need to be a woman looking for work or looking for any form of training that may increase your chances of wanting to get employment. If someone is working for less than 16 hours, you qualify for the course and any other future courses.  Venue: Glanymor & Tyisha Communities First IT suite

  • Thursday 13th & Friday 14th October from 10am – 3pm, Mental Health First Aid Training-MHFA as part of World Mental Health Day (Women’s Only), Venue: Communities First Office, 26/28 Inkerman Street, Llanelli, SA15 1SA

Events as part of Black History Month

Anti-Poverty Week (17th October – 21st October 2011) Funded by Community Cohesion Fund

  • Monday 17th October from 10am – 4pm, IT taster sessions working in partnership with Communities Digital 2.0 and Ethnic Minority Help Association, Venue: Communities First Office, 26/28 Inkerman Street, Llanelli, SA15 1SA

  • Glanymor and Tyisha Communities First is working in collaboration with Ethnic Minority Help Association (EMHA) and Communities Digital 2.0 project to encourage community members, particularly adult learners and BME community members to learn basic computer skills. Programme as follows: 

10.00 – 11.30: Introduction to emails (setting up account and sending/receiving)

11.30 – 13.00: Internet Shopping and Banking Online

13.30 – 15.00: Internet Safety

15.00 – 16.00: Searching for Jobs Online

Interpretation for taster sessions mentioned above is available on that day.

  • Tuesday 18th October from 11am – 1pm, Oxfam Cymru Workshop, Venue: The Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli, SA15 2NE. A workshop will be held working in partnership with Oxfam Cymru using their successful Sustainable Livelihoods Approach tool to analyse how different people experience poverty and assets that people possess to achieve a sustainable livelihood.   • Friday 21st October from 10am – 2pm, Grand Finale Anti-Poverty Week’s Celebration,. Venue: The Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli, SA15 2NE, activities include: healthy cooking, demonstrations on a budget and performances by different cultural groups.  Stalls by organisations providing services to reduce the effect of poverty: Local council, Age Concern, British Red Cross and African Community Centre. In addition, the winner of the poster competition will be revealed at this event.

  • Every Tuesday & Wednesday from 10am-12pm, Survival English Course funded by Community Cohesion Fund, Venue: Lakefield Hall, Lakefield Road, Llanelli, SA15 2TS

  • Saturday 29th October from 6pm – 10pm, Celebrations of Dewali Event funded by Community Cohesion Fund, Venue: Morfa Social Club 33 New Street, Llanelli, SA15 2BS, everybody is welcome to attend!
