Headaches are Not Normal!
“Given the amount of adverts that we see for paracetamol, anyone could be forgiven for thinking that headaches were just a normal part of life.
Headaches are not normal and don’t need to be tolerated. Migraine is a medical condition on its own, but the stress relate headache can be successfully managed by looking at the contributing factors.
There is a large musculoskeletal component to these headaches as stress can cause the neck and upper shoulder muscles to become overactive and tight.
These can directly refer pain to the head, often the forehead and eye, give a sense of tightness or pressure at the base of the skull(especially if you’ve been in front of a computer all day) or compress the neck joints and lead to them producing the pain. Assessing any postural, muscular or joint.Â
Sources of headache is important in helping to manage this condition along with dealing with the causes of stress. Physiotherapy can be very effective at this and re-educaing people about what good posture is and how to stretch out those tight and overactive muscles.
As pain and stress can feed into each other a reduction in pain can help in the reduction of stress! I should probably write a bit about the relationship betweenstress and pain at another time. Don’t tolerate those headaches!
