Community safety team hit the road for Christmas

CARMARTHENSHIRE’S community safety team is hitting the road this Christmas to spread some festive crime prevention advice.

A number of roadshows are being held across the county and residents are being urged to go along and meet their local Neighbourhood Policing Team as well as pick up essential safety advice and crime prevention tips.

The roadshows are being held on/at:

  • Friday, December 2 – 3pm-5pm – Tesco, Parc Trostre, Llanelli
  • Tuesday, December 6 – 11am-2pm – Guildhall Sqaure, Carmarthen
  • Wednesday, December 21 – 10am – 2pm – Quay street, Ammanford

Officers will also be encouraging people to sign up to the Online Watch Link (OWL) messaging system. Free to residents, it sends messages – such as crime alerts or crime prevention advice – by telephone, fax, email or mobile phone. The aim is to inform communities so that they can share information on incidents from rogue traders to anti-social behaviour. It works particularly well for Neighbourhood Watch groups and can help prevent further crimes being committed as well as reassuring residents.

Community Safety officer PC Anthony George said: “Carmarthenshire is one of the safest places to live in the UK and we want to keep it that way. We want to remind the public that by following some simple steps we can all reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime this Christmas and throughout the year.”

The Community Safety Partnership is made up of representatives from the county council, police, fire service and other agencies and aims to make the county a safer place to live, work and visit.

The council’s Executive Board Member for Community Safety Cllr Pam Palmer said: “I would urge shoppers to go along and speak to our community safety officers for advice on how to keep themselves and their property safe this festive season. It is an excellent opportunity to meet their local Neighbourhood Policing Team and if they do have any concerns they can speak to officers direct. There will also be the chance to find out more about the Online Watch Link which is an excellent way of keeping people informed with what’s going on in their police service.”
