Llanelli’s Dai Greene named in Sports Personality of the Year 2011 top 10

The former Coedcae school pupil has been announced in the top ten hopefuls for the BBC Sports Personality and after such a successful year must surely be one of the favourites.

The 25-year-old now holds the World, European and Commonwealth titles in the 400m hurdles and has his sights set on adding an Olympic title to his list of accolades next year.

Success at the Olympics would also make Greene Wales’ first Olympic champion on the track since long jumper Lynn Davies won gold at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Greene has said it is an “honour” to be compared to fellow Welsh hurdler and three-time world champion Colin Jackson.

The top ten are:

  • Mark Cavendish

  • Alastair Cook

  • Mo Farah

  • Amir Khan

  • Andy Murray

  • Darren Clarke

  • Luke Donald

  • Dai Greene

  • Rory McIlroy

  • Andrew Strauss

A public phone vote will decide the winner during the show on BBC One, which will be broadcast live from 2000 GMT on Thursday, 22 December.
