In a statement today by Welsh finance minister, Jane Hutt £38.9 million will be provided to boost key sectors in the Welsh economy over the next two years – a deal that has been supported by the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

As part of the package, an additional £3million will be allocated to Skills Growth Wales, a follow on programme building on the success of ProAct, supporting businesses to expand their workforce.

Keith Davies said:

“With continued economic uncertainty set against a backdrop of inaction by the UK Government, it is paramount that the Welsh Government uses this additional money, to boost the economy in sectors where the maximum benefit can be received.

“I welcome the additional support for the construction sector. A commitment to more affordable homes and a further £9.26 million in the capital investment in schools programme won’t just benefit the construction industry it will enhance the educational experience for our young people.”

In Mid November, a scheme worth £55 million was announced to support business growth. Last week, the Welsh Government outlined a boost of £87 million of capital investment which includes actions that will boost the economy whilst developing public services.

Arbed, the Welsh Government scheme to eradicate fuel poverty and improve home energy effieciency will benefit from £3 million to expant the Community Energey Saving Programme delivering whole-house improvements in the most deprived communities throughout Wales.
