LLANELLI AM MEETS HARDWORKING VOLUNTEERS
Keith Davies, Labour AM for Llanelli has met with several local volunteers at a recent event in the Senedd.
WRVS operates several services in the Llanelli and Gwendraeth areas – the most high profile being the Meals on Wheels service.
As a charity, WRVS has been helping people in Britain for more than 70 years. Originally set up as the Women’s Voluntary Service in 1938, the charity played a crucial role during the Second World War. Whilst keeping the same values of community service, WRVS has now focused its work on helping older and vulnerable people to remain independent and get more out of life.
Keith Davies said:
“I was very happy to meet with such a hard working and dedicated team of volunteers, who perform such an important job in our communities. Every month, the Llanelli WRVS team delivers more than 1730 hot meals by 27 volunteers who work 7 routes in the area.”
“At a time when the care of the elderly is featuring so prominently in the news for all of the wrong reasons, it is reassuring to know that not only are the WRVS delivering hot meals they are providing an essential ‘safe and well’ check when they deliver their meals to make sure the older people they deliver to have everything they need to stay happy, healthy and independent.”
WRVS is one of the largest voluntary organisations in Britain with over 45,000 men and women helping people in their homes, the community, hospitals and in emergencies.
The organisation is looking for new volunteers to support the work happening locally. Anyone interested can call us on 0845 601 4670, or visit our website:www.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk
