New Year’s Honours

The New Year’s Honours have been announced and there’s joy for two local heroes.

Prince Philip Hospital Breast cancer surgeon Simon Holt is honoured with an MBE.  Mr Holt is reported as saying that the MBE was a tremendous honour and added: “I accept this on behalf of the many people who have supported (The Breast Cancer) the unit over the years.”

In December, he published world-leading research that showed how a genetic test could help reduce the number of breast cancer patients put through unnecessary chemotherapy.

Llanelli Scout leader and current chair of Communities First Bigyn 4, Christopher Reed has received an MBE for his 45 years of community work.

Also, the chief executive of Carmarthenshire County Council, Mark James is made a CBE.

Congratulations to them!
