Big Spawn Count

Have you seen frog or toad spawn in your garden pond this year yet? Given the mild winter you may well have.

If so then why not join in with the Pond Conservation Trust’s (PCT) Big Spawn Count, so that they can find out more about the breeding success of our frogs and toads in garden ponds nationally.

The Big Pond Dip and Thaw surveys have already given PCT a lot of new information about garden ponds. Now they are working with colleagues at Amphibian and Reptile Conservation and Amphibian and Reptile Groups of UK to find out more about the numbers of frogs breeding in garden ponds.

PCT are also keen to find out more about our common toad. Although, toads are less associated with garden ponds – there is some indication that the use of gardens is becoming more frequent due to loss of traditional breeding habitat. This is something PCT would like to find out more about.

You can take part in the Big Spawn Count by counting the number of spawn clumps present in your pond. For more information about this, and to enter your results online go to the Big Spawn Count pages.

Cyfrif Grifft y Llyffant

Ydych chi wedi gweld grifft llyffant neu froga yn y pwll yn eich gardd? Os felly, ymunwch â chynllun yr Ymddiriedolaeth Gwarchod Pyllau (PCT) i gyfrif y grifft er mwyn iddyn nhw gael gwybod a ydy llyffaint a brogaod yn gallu magu’n llwyddiannus mewn pyllau gardd.

Mae PCT hefyd yn awyddus i gael gwybod mwy am y llyffant dafadennog. Dydy llyffaint ddim fel arfer yn byw mewn pyllau gardd, ond am fod eu cynefinoedd traddodiadol yn dirywio mae mwy a mwy ohonyn nhw’n troi at byllau gardd i fridio. Mae hyn yn rhywbeth yr hoffem gael gwybod mwy amdano.
