Marches sevens victory for Coleg Sir Gâr

Coleg Sir Gâr opened their sevens season in the prestigious Hereford Marches tournament.

With entries including the likes of Llandovery College and Milfield it was always going to be a tough task to retain the trophy. Coleg Sir Gâr quickly got into the groove of playing the shorter version of the game; they won their group with ease beating Solihull 31 – 0, Ysgol Bro

Morgannwg 36 – 12 and KES Bath 49 – 7.

In the quarter-final, Coleg Sir Gâr played Kings Worcester and again dominated. Jake Randall and Aaron Evans each showed great pace and power to score a brace of tries in the 33 – 0 win.

The semi-final was against last year’s Rosslyn Park winners Filton College Bristol, but once again the Steelers were too strong and won 31

– 14. Skipper Sion Bennett led the way with a strong performance, and showed excellent acceleration and strength scoring his two tries.

In the final, Coleg Sir Gâr played the sevens specialists Millfield and knew only their best would be good enough. The Steelers started strong with the midfield-general David Treharne, controlling the game and it was a break from Treharne that led to the first try from flying winger Aaron Evans. Skipper Bennett then scored from the kick-off but Millfield scored just before the break to make the score 14 – 7 at the interval.
