Man fined for dog fouling offence on coastal path

A MAN has been fined for failing to clean up after his dog along the Millennium Coastal Path in Burry Port.

The council’s environmental enforcement officers issued the fixed penalty notice for £75. Failure to pay could lead to prosecution in the magistrates court and a maximum fine of £1,000.

The officers were on patrol in the area following complaints of owners not clearing up after their pets.

It is now hoped this fine will act as a warning to others that anyone caught failing to clean up after their dog will be prosecuted.

Dog fouling is one of the main causes of complaint from residents to Carmarthenshire County Council.

The council is working hard to tackle the problem of dog fouling and enforcement officers regularly carry out patrols across the county.

Cllr Jim Jones, chair of the Environment Scrutiny Committee, said: “Dog mess left anywhere is a serious health risk, the coastal path is used by families with young children and this type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

“The majority of residents take their responsibilities seriously but there is still a small minority who do not listen. The council is determined to stop the problem of dog fouling and improve the environment for both residents and visitors to Carmarthenshire.”
