Boxers benefit from police grant

Trostre Amateur Boxing Club was recently presented with a cheque for £456 thanks to Dyfed Powys Police.

The money’s come from the force’s incentivisation fund. This fund is made up of money that’s been recovered as proceeds of crime from convicted criminals, which is then ploughed back into our local communities.

“I would like on behalf of Trostre ABC to say a big thank you to Dyfed Powys Police for this substantial donation which will go some way in enhancing our range of equipment at the gym,” said Del Phillips the secretary of the Club. “Apart from coaching amateur boxers in the Llanelli area the club has been recognised in the past for the good work it has carried out over the years in teaching the young and not so young members a sense of discipline, respect for others and good citizenship.

“Gareth Howells our senior coach was awarded the MBE by the Queen a few years ago for his dedication and service to the children and youth of Llanelli through his work at the Gym.

“Any improvement to the facilities and equipment at the gym will undoubtedly assist in recruiting additional members and continue to provide the youth of the area with an opportunity to keep fit and channel their energies and aggression in the right direction within a safe and secure environment as opposed to hanging around street corners and getting into mischief.”

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the force was PCSO Tom Edwards from the Llwynhendy Neghbouring Policing Team, who nominated the Club for the grant.

“Trostre ABC is a worthy recipient of this donation,” he said. “The club over the years has struggled to survive and has only managed to keep going through the dedication, commitment and hard work of a group of volunteers who give up their free time to provide a safe and secure environment for young people and adults in the community to pursue their interest in amateur boxing.

“The donation to the club is the result of police seizing the assets of criminals who have been convicted by the Courts of serious criminal and drug related activities and giving the money to nominated various local good causes and projects within the community.”
