Jobseeker of the Week Success ‘Michael Elliot’
Michael Elliott started attending with us at The Lighthouse in November 2011. Before attending with us, Michael had spent the last 13 years working locally at Dawn Pac as a production operative.
Due to Michael being out of practise with regards to job applications and interviews, he had low confidence and was quite nervous at the prospect of looking for work. Also, at the age of 57, he felt he had little to offer and didn’t think he’d stand much chance against all the youth of today looking for work.
This was Michael’s main motivation for attending at The Lighthouse. This became the priority, to support Michael by teaching him useful interview techniques and then further supporting him with mock interviews. As soon as Michael felt ready, he started attending weekly job search classes. He applied for various job vacancies ranging from retail and cleaning to hospitality.
After 3 months of job applications, Michael was offered a job at Park Resorts, Carmarthen Bay as an ‘Accommodation Cleaner’. Living in Carway, this suited him and he is thoroughly pleased to be back in employment.
During his time at The Lighthouse, Michael attended various activities to improve his employability and with the job search classes, this was a good preparation for the employment he has now found.
Upon leaving The Lighthouse, Michael said:
“The Lighthouse has been brilliant, it has helped me far more than any other organisation and I don’t think I’d be back working without them. The staff were so friendly and helpful and I am so grateful to everyone for all their help”.
His Job search Tutor, Rebecca Thomas said:
“Michael was an excellent attender and was very motivated. He was very open minded and keen to get back into employment and he is a perfect example of how anyone, no matter what age or background can get back into employment if they want it enough”.
